THE KING WILLIAM
STREET PROJECT
Our focus has been on three 'T's: Trees, Tubes and Traffic; each set in the context of our local community and our shared vision for the future of the Ward. The next phase includes the pedestrianisation and greening elements, a core part of our Pledge to the Ward.
At the Wardmote and through our newsletters, we have provided details of the Candlewick Pedestrian Priority project (King William Street and the Monument junction) and our determined effort to improve foot and vehicular movements in and around the Ward. This is following our successful bid for environmental improvements to King William Street, a project which will deliver wider pavements on both sides of the street, the first new trees in our Ward since 1898, new seating and general accessibility improvements and a much improved traffic flow.
On this page you can find the plans for King William Street alongside the visuals of how the street and walkways will look once the project completes in April, 2026.
