THE ABCHURCH YARD PROJECT
At the Wardmote in September we shared the exciting plans for Abchurch Yard, as part of the building works at 10 King William Street.
Chris and James picked this up on being elected, where our focus was very much on the Bank Station project (which completed in mid-2023) and then on the updated planning permission for the site where we’ve done our utmost to improve the proposals and to incorporate public realm improvements to the surrounding area, particularly Abchurch Yard, working in conjunction with local businesses and St Mary Abchurch.
We are pleased to inform you that after many tiresome delays, TfL have now appointed a contractor and the enabling works including relocation of the electrical substations within the site and concrete pumping have now begun.
We are delighted that our lobbying and representations were successful, and you will see The Future of Abchurch Yard a much improved and expanded public space both inside and outside the building site. As you know, we’ve pushed hard to improve the scheme for Abchurch Yard and all those on Abchurch Lane.
We are also pleased that the expanded public space with provide further seating and recreation space (please see the impression images) and most importantly, the Yard and Lane will finally be on the same level and indeed level to both King William and Cannon Street!
We do really think this is going to regenerate and improve both the Yard and surrounding streets both visually but also for pedestrian traffic.
