SUPPORT FOR SME'S: Protecting our local shops, personal services and leisure providers
Without the business, retail, food, entertainment and personal services provided by our SME businesses - over 95% of our Ward - the City would be a far less pleasant and convenient place to work and live. The reality is that many SMEs have had a very tough few years with a never before seen combination of challenges including working-from-home, pandemic related debt and entrenched rail strikes. We are working hard to increase footfall and our leisure offering in partnership with the EC BID and the City of London's Destination City strategy. For more information please see the Destination City page.
WHAT WE'RE DOING
The Candlewick Ward Team has taken practical steps to help SME’s locally, regularly visiting and speaking with business owners. We provide a free advertising service in our local community newsletters as well as the City of London communication channels to raise awareness of local business including retail (special offers), restaurant and food as well as financial and professional services.
We are keen to continue to define and build our local community. To that end, your Candlewick Ward Team work to connect workers with locally based businesses that provide the services they need whether that be a copywriter or underwriter, notary or something tasty at lunchtime. We see building human connections as a key part of the Ward and City's future growth. The Candlewick Business Forum is a central part of this effort and we would love to see this continue across all sectors and industries represented and based in the Ward and beyond.
We are working with Corporation departments and other City stakeholders such as the EC BID to increase footfall and amenities for workers and residents alike. Please contact us if you would like further information and details of how we can assist in raising the profile of your business and the awareness amongst residents and workers of what you have to offer.
"The support of the Candlewick Team was instrumental in securing critical recovery support and informing workers of where we are and what we have to offer. Support from our local business community is essential."
